Restaining kitchen cabinets is actually a kind of project you can do by yourself. Oak cabinet for example, is one of the easiest types of kitchen cabinet to be re-stained. So, if you currently own oak cabinets at home and wanted to give it a new face to show off, here are some steps you can follow for the project.

The first step of restaining kitchen cabinets is removing all the attached parts to your main cabinet body, such as the doors, frames, glasses, and any other parts of it. When opening the hinges, it is important to remove the bottom side first to make it easier. This will also avoid damaging the door and hinges.

Next, clean the cabinet thoroughly using wet clothes or sponge. If the cabinet got too wet due to the cleanse process, it is highly advised to let them dry first before getting to the next step. While you wait for the cabinet to completely dry, you can apply protection to your counter, wall, and floors with plastic sheets or others.

Once it dried, you may start to remove the finishes applied to the cabinet using paint stripper and putty knife. Do the same thing to all surfaces including the doors. After that, it’s time to sand the surface to clean it from any remaining residue. Once it finished, you may start restaining kitchen cabinets. Apply oil-based stain using paintbrush until it completely cover all the visible surface. Let it dry and the last is applying polyurethane as protection lamination. It’s done!
